Transitioning From Swaddles

Swaddle BabyMED.jpg

Recommended from about 4 months of age when the startle (moro) reflex has settled

  • Ensure your baby is not over tired, when a baby is overtired their movements may be more jerky and flailing arms will distract your little one when trying to settle to sleep

  • Start in the evening with one arm for a few days then take the other arm out for the next few days then move to daytime naps.

  • Allow your baby time to adjust to having the arms out of swaddle they may appear to be unsettled with their arm movements but this is normal with any change we make and should resolve within a few days of no swaddle.

  • Safe guidelines recommend to wean from swaddles or love to dream with arms in and commence using sleeping bags from 4 months or when your baby is rolling from back to front

  • Maybe another sleep association is hindering the success of the removal of the swaddle. If this is happening it may be worth having a free 15-minute consult to further discuss.
